Batik is a distinctive feature of the Malay fine arts and culture. It has grown to claim a place in the mainstream of the fashion industry, with the introduction of contemporary designs and fabrics that allow for
diverse applications.
Traditionally, craftsmen used a process of waxing and dyeing the cloth to produce vibrant batik designs. In early days, dots were used to compose the patterns. The techniques have since evolved and now include computer-generated designs. Motifs are inspired by flora and fauna among other forms of Nature, and by geometrical shapes.
